Mystic

We decided we needed a little break and settled on visiting Mystic, CT. We drove down this morning and checked into the Steamboat Inn, right on the edge of the Mystic River, next to a drawbridge.

Tonight we went to the Mystic Seaport Museum where, by lantern light, reinactors presented a Christmas story set in 1876 that involved the audience in walking to various sites in the town to solicit donations for a local production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. We were entertained by a group of carolers while we waited for the tour to begin. It was a fun, albeit cold and windy, journey back in time. Now we're warming up in front of our fireplace with sherry and cookies provided by the inn.

Across the river from our window is a lighted Christmas tree. Our room is cosy and comfortable enough that I could be happy spending a couple days just sitting here in front of the fireplace, reading and looking out at the river.
