A Magical Day at the Magic Kingdom

Today started off with breakfast at the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club and then outside to wait for the bus where we had a nice chat with a cast member from Hong Kong who is working here as part of Disney's International College Program.

We had hoped for light crowds at the Magic Kingdom today, but we were out of luck. It was quite crowded at 11:00 when we arrived and that didn't change much by the time we left around 3:00. As soon as we walked onto Main Street USA, we encountered the saxophone quartet and some ladies singing Zippity Doo Da! Of course, I had to get a photo with them!

We rode Rick's favorite, the Haunted Mansion, which has been refurbished since the last time we were here, and my favorite, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. In between we took a raft ride out to Tom Sawyer Island where we explored Injun Joe's cave, crossed the river on a barrel bridge, and shot Injuns from the turret of a frontier fort. We hadn't visited this attraction since one of our early trips with James and we had fun playing pretend.

We had lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern, took a ride on the Liberty Belle riverboat, and then went back to the hotel for a rest.

Tonight we walked over to Big River Brewing on the Boardwalk, had cheeseburgers and a couple of beers and decided spending a relaxing evening hanging out here was a much better idea than going back to the Magic Kingdom for the parade and fireworks - and the crowds. The Boardwalk area is a fun place to walk around, shop and people-watch. It's themed as an early 1900s seaside resort with carnival games, refreshment kiosks, and strolling performers. We got some coffee and watched a guy balancing glasses and golf clubs on the tip of a knife and listened to a singing banjo player on our way back to the Beach Club. Now we're in for the night.
